Hi all.
I am starting to pimp my beer kits and seem to be getting a much higher FG than I thought.

I currently have a Brewferm Pilsner on the go. I added 500g light DME and 600g dextrose in 20L of water using the kit yeast packet fermenting at 23C.
According to the instructions FG should be 1.004.

I am seeing the fermentation stopped and get a SG of 1.011.

I expect a higher FG as the instructions are based on 1KG of sugar/ dextrose, but 6 to 7 points seems much higher to me.

Does anyone know what sort of effect DME has on FG? I believe it to be 80% fermentable and using ale yeast (23C) probably means less than that. I haven't tasted it yet and will leave it another 5 days incase (has had a really good start and been fermenting for 5 days now.

Any advice/info would be much appreciated

There have been a few post recently where kits predict what I would consider to be over optimistic FG levels, possibly so they can advertise a higher ABV.

If I get down to 1.009 on my AG I am happy.

Also too much fermentables can be too much for the yeast provided.
