Hi All,

Another (of my many) questions...

On my 2nd brew, coppers lager, started Saturday, lid swelling on FV but have not seem any bubbling going on in airlock yet...should it go bubble bubble bubble and be noticable or will it just release slowly and maybe I am just missing them?

Thanks,

Dave.

If the lid is swelling on your FV (Im asuming its a bucket with snap on lid) there is more than enough pressure to bubble through an air lock noticeably. My suspicion is that the Co2 is escaping from somewhare else, ie the lids rim. Nothing to worry about but if it bothers you try reseating the lid.

I had the same problem when I first started and I could never get my airlock to bubble so I don,t bother with one, I just cover with a spare lid I have (no hole in it).

 Airlocks are not required for beer fermentation as the amount of CO2 given off is more than sufficient to prevent infection. Just clip the lid on and and leave a short bit of the lid unclipped

Once fermentation has finished then use an airlock to protect it if you must . . . I just clip the lid on fully. . . .Winemakers use Airlocks (again during the later phases of fermentation) as wines take much longer to finish fermenting are require more protection . . . During the initial phase of fermenting on the pulp even they do not need an airlock
