I'm just about ready for my first AG brewday.. Boiler finished and tested :thumb: Mash tun finished and watertight :thumb: Tap whacked onto my FV :thumb: just need to cut slits in my tun filter and drill holes in hop filter... Now then peeps, how long should I allow for the process up to finishing the boil? I don't have a chiller so I'll allow it to cool in the FV.. I've seen all kinds of timings, what is your typical experience? :hmm:

From start to finish, anything between 6 and 9 hours. And that includes cleaning up as well. When i used to brew, i didnt use a chiller, all i did was let it cool over night, or stick the FV into a bath full of cold water.
Good luck on popping you cherry. Whats your maiden brew going to be?

sooooo starting after 8 ish tonight is a bit dim then?.... Tun filter now slitted :thumb: just gotta do Mr Hopfilter

You'll be cleaned up and put away by 2am if you start at 8pm :D

Give your self time mate, go for 90min in the tun and 90min for the boil and a nice slow easy sparge takes 35-45min.

Its a marathon not a sprint and enjoy yourself.

If you get stuck use the chat facility :thumb:

Cooling in a cold bath, you should be able to cool 23lts in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, change the water a few times.

Good luck with the brew. My 1st took 7 1/2 hrs, including cleaning up. Am going to be doing my 2nd a TTL tomorrow. One thing, and I don't know if it is a common mistake, but I hadn't got my sparge water up to temperature before the end of the mash, and had to wait another 20mins; so tomorrow I will get the water heated early.

Thing is to take your time and enjoy it.

good tips  I'm hoping for tomorrow as I'm back at work on tuesday so that will tie me up tilll the weekend...
