I'm cloning Mikkeller's Monk's Brew and want to use yeast I have in a bottle of previous homebrew. The Mikkeller clone is 1.089 and needs to ferment down to 1.016.

Usually a 1 litre starter would be fine but as this is a pretty big beer, would a bigger starter be necessary?

Thanks.

I haven't harvested from a bottle but I am guessing you may want to step it up.. first with a 1 liter then.. when thats fermented out.. do a 2 liter one..

Yeah, will deffo step up. Last time I did ~200ml from a bottle to 1 litre and fermentation started very quickly.

But you reckon 2litre is necessary? The yeast in question is Safale Abbey. I would buy some but I'm not due to do a shop for a while and have it in bottles.
