I don't use a hop strainer in my copper i use the "paint straining bag" method for the hops therefore should I be leaving my wort to settle out before transferring to the FV after cooling?
Would any break material in the fermenter have an adverse effect on the finished beer?
I now leave my finished beer in the primary for 3 weeks, so it's pretty clear before it goes into bottle or barrel but any break material would have been in there all the way through the fermentation.

The break material will cause you no problems I used hop socks before I got my bazooka strainer fitted, sometimes there was a lot of break material transferred to fv but it settles out and doesn't harm the beer ( well it didn't for me )
