Just wondering if anyone has ever added horlicks to a brew to up the malty taste?

Often read about how this and that has been added, never seen anything about horlicks.

hey tony you planning a bedtime brew

i`ve got some ovaltine in the cupboard (same as horlicks i think) and after the malt extract its a few e numbers, veg oil and whey and egg!!!

you want to put that in your beer :nono:

Play with different grains and a lower/less in your face hop schedule to increase the maltyness of your beer :thumb:

I brew mainly pale and hoppy beers - the spotlight on the hops, but i`m just tasting a week old best bitter

and just like wez said the different malts (and less in your face hops) fermented with S-04 works really well for a more traditional brew - its still quite bitter (47ish IBU) but is balanced with the malts - i`m glad i`ve got another 30 something bottles of this one :thumb:

this won`t last long

Hmmm .. over the years I've tried a lot of different malt combinations and never really got that powerful 'malt' taste.

I've seen people put all sorts of weird stuff in their brews (most recent is a cadbury cream egg brew)... but like you say Rick, there's w(h)ey too much crap in the horlicks jar along with the malt.

I'll stick to what I know :D

(getting drunk)

I love the funny looks I get in my local HB shop when I mention strange additives, sure he thinks I'm a nutter, okay I'm just a little strange

Must admit though, that when the kids are playing in the rock pools this summer I'll be searching for Chondrus crispus or Irish moss as we know it
