Brew day went really well despite my balls retreating due to the blizzard of snow all day šŸ„¶
I had to keep the lid partially on the boiler as it was snowing so much so my boil off was reduced. I ended up with 24L at 1.060 instead of the intended 22L but otherwise hit all my numbers and no leaks this time šŸ‘šŸŗ

My little tube heater is struggling in the brew fridge and is sat at 17 instead of 19. Ive just ordered another one and will wire it in parallel with the existing one when it arrives to allow me to raise the temp towards the end of fermentation šŸ„¶

Tube heater has maxed out at 18.8 so Iā€™ve moved the fermenter into the kitchen (other half not impressed) šŸ˜‚

Gravity is 1.012 so the Verdant yeast must have been happy enough out in the cold

Wasnā€™t sure whether to use the ā€œwowā€ icon or the laugh. On balance the laugh won out but Iā€™m surprised the second heater didnā€™t do the job, the insulation maybe needs a bit of help

New tube heater hasnā€™t arrived yet! And as the gravity is nearly at FG I thought it was time to bring her in šŸ˜‚

I agree this fridge is *****!

Ah! I misunderstood. It might be alright then when you have the second heater.

Iā€™m hoping so! Itā€™s quite a bit bigger this fridge than my previous one so needs a bit more juice to ramp up the temp. With two it should be spot on and allow me to crank it up to 25/30 fingers crossed

Throw them hops in and watch them drink a good 4 ltrs

Greedy buggers! I think youā€™re right! Itā€™ll be nice to free up some freezer space though. And Iā€™m really craving a hop bomb as Iā€™ve had dark beers on tap for the last few months

Iā€™m the opposite, think I need to brew some dark and stouts, done 8 or so all grain and been throwing hops in like they are going out of fashion.
Had a couple of cans of punk at the weekend and could hardly taste the hops lol.

To be fair I donā€™t think Brewdog are a patch on what they used to be. Watered down commercialised beer these days. I think tastes change as well depending on what you drink. If you have several cans of Verdant, Cloudwater, Firebrand etc then tried a Punk it wouldnā€™t taste good šŸ˜‚ the same goes for homebrew- 9 times out of 10 itā€™ll beat a shop bought beer if done right šŸŗ

You hit the nail on the head, punk is not a patch on what it used to be years ago.
I have only been following recipes, using the brewzilla and doing closed transfers to corny kegs, but every brew has tasted better than most shop bought beer.

Iā€™ve got my Hobgoblish in my brew fridge in the shed. The 60w tube heater is keeping it nicely at 20 degrees whilst the temperature outside the fridge is currently -3 degrees.

I took a picture of my shed roof this morning. The brew-shed is at a constant 14C but the snow on the roof ( been there a few days) hasnā€™t melted at all. Good eh?

The moral of the story is donā€™t give your A*** rated brew fridge to your misses and then replace it with a mingbats second hand ā€˜thingā€™ that deserves to be laid to rest in a skip...
