I was thinking use it after the boil, during the transfer of the wort to the FV

I have a 20mm ball valve on the boiler with an elbow to direct the wort into the fv. The 50 ltr boiler I use has a 4" apv fitting only, on the top, which I use for my other hobby [which is legal in NZ]. The filter will not fit through. So the wort will leave the boiler through the valve , through the filter into the FV.

Looks like it should work to me :thumb:
If you are going to use it as a sort of inline hop filter, presumably you have some thoughts on a suitable enclosure for it??

What was the original intended use? :wha:

I work in retirement in a Stainless sheet metal shop and have access to all sorts of off-cuts, I also have creative imagination of what things could be used for, this filter was a flat piece of perf about to be scrapped, I rolled it and stuck a base on it, voila a filter? My thoughts were just to rest it in the FV neck, let it drain , pitch the yeast and screw the top on with the airlock.

Your filter looks good, but as it takes a few liters to get the hop bed to act as a filter, you are going to get a lot of trub come through with the first runnings. Could you not make some sort of enclosure so that you can recirculate the runnings before allowing it into the FV. More complicated, but clearer runnings.

thanks for the tip, yes I could drop it into a bit of 150 pipe, seal the end and put a small outlet
near the bottom, will see what I can scrounge. Would a coffee drip filter cloth be too fine?
