Hi there you jolly brewers out there long time since been on ere but still love it. anyway i used honey instead of sugar in my geordge lager kit back in march its well conditioned in bottles now I OPENED ONE last week omg its ace comes out like a samug**l light beer :thumb: :cheers: :party: :drink: recomend it. I used tesc@s own honey x2 full jars alc vol was 6.5% cheers
 
I've moved the topic into beer brewing as it fits here better than wine & cider :thumb:

Sounds like an interesting - and easy - tweak to a kit :cheers:
 
I've used honey a few times now. Not really sure what the difference is as the times I have used it isn't on a recipe I have done before. No complaints though, lovely brews :thumb:
 
I used honey with a coopers ipa kit a while back, brewed it with 500g of medium dme and a large squeezey honey think it was 1.1k so probably too much really. Came out pretty strong about 7% but tasted really smooth and just slightly sweet, i didnt think it tasted like honey as such just smoothed it outnicely and improved mouthfeel but that could in part be the dme also. It was one of my favourite beers i have brewed though.
 
Be careful.....Honey is basically bee secretions either pi155 or s4it....you have no idea as to what other particles are in the jar or other yeasties. Its best to give it a boil to sanitize first

No, honey often contains spores. Other than that it is fairly sterile :)

Nothing to worry about with regards to the bee spit though, once it's been processed.

A quick boil won't do anything for the spores unfortunately and there shouldn't really be any yeast or anything in the honey, fairly sterile stuff in that regard.
 
Honey is not sterile - it is advised against giving to kids under 1 year old due to the risk of botulism :shock:
When I have used it in brews, I have put it in the boil for the last minute or so :thumb:

Yeah that's due to the spores. Unfortunately boiling would need to be a number of hours to get rid of them... even at that there's no guarantee though.

Honey is fairly sterile with regards to bacteria etc. Not a lot to worry about in that regard.
