So, since I don't have a beard, don't wear sandals, don't own a pewter mug, and generally prefer heavy metal and rock music, do I actually match even a single stereotype?

The only stereotype I actually have of homebrewers now, is that they are 30 to 60 years old, have space indoors or outdoors to brew, and aren't so skint that they can't afford to indulge a hobby that demands a constant supply of money - even if it does reward you most handsomely for that invested money :drink: :drink:

I'll just reply to those statements:

No beard
Sandals (well, sporty ones) when I'm abroad
No pewter mug
Heavy Metal !!
39
Garage to brew in
Skint-ish, but £12 for the gear to brew 23 ish ltres of beer..

I'm 40, hardly well off, but aside from spending here and there on all grain kit, and of course kegs, AG is SO cheap! At roughly £1 a kilo of grain, and my brews generally using around 5kg of grain, it works out SO cheap to create beer  :drink: :drink:

I'm 43, no beard, occasional sandal wearer but never with socks, prefer rock/metal/blues. I'm usually skint, it was the reason I took up the hobby in the first place, but I managed to construct my kit relatively cheaply.

The one thing that was slightly extravagant was the home bar which cost £400 to set up.
