SWMBO seems to be suffering with homebrew rage at the moment, she has been simmering with it for weeks, no months, finally the hot break came, I had a job to contain it, but it boiled over and...well..you can imagine the mess

I try my hardest to limit the impact of homebrewing, it's not my fault I'm caught in the grip of it, she has been patient with all the gadget buying, plastic bins, shiny stuff, fridges, bottles, mess, water, wort and the amount of time spent setting-up, brewing, fettling, fermenting, racking, cooling, bottling, just to get a drink (and I only brew a single batch once a month)!!

I need a strategy to keep her happy, gifts of money don't seem to be enough, it's only a matter of time before she reaches high Krausen again and gives me another dose of chill haze

Any suggestions?

Become a secret brewer like me   what she doesn't know about doesn't bother her

Get her a 19 year old Male Escort. They're at their peak mate -probably cheaper for two. Just Google it. Worked for her indoors. I'm as happy as a happy person that's been on a "Be Happy" course ;-)

Small price to pay to get her off ya back ;)

Explain to her at least you're not one of those blokes that go straight from work and down to pub or club until late evening and besides it keeps you out of mischief . Can't see the problem really as long as you use the shed etc and take her out now and then and so on . And as Dennis wisely mentioned Prozac (sounds like it's the mrs who is the problem not the brewing )

Up in Yorkshire we resort to a piece of 4 x 2 at back o 'ead now and again. dun't have keep em quiet.......

Try reasoning-the more beer I make the less you have to carry home from the shop

Try explaining with a fancy equation:
MS{IP}-MS{OHB}=MA{FS}
where MS represents possible money spent
IP represents in pub
OHB represents on home brew
MA represents money available
FS is the FOR SHOES variable

Appeal to her inner eco warrior- I am reducing our carbon footprint by recycling all of these glass bottles at home.

Also point out that no animals have been harmed testing your home brew.

Remind her that you have improved your health by taking a regular dose of brewers yeast

you could try saying the more i brew the more i drink ...
the more i drink the better you look .. :D

but then mabe thats why am single ...

best say nothing and hope it blows its self out ...

regards mick... :hat: .

Remind her that you'd love to make any particular brew she wants, all she has to do is ask.

Free reclaimed with a few rusty nails does the trick.... ;)

Oh aye
Don't use new timber its a reet price..

Include her.

If she likes any kind of beer, get her to help you write a recipe for her own special beer and then include her as much as you can when making it - even if it's only to have a cuppa with her while the mash is on and ask her about what she wants it to taste like etc?

If she doesn't like beer, be brave and try a wine for her? (even an elderflower wine or something)
Maybe a few bottles of wine for her and her girls to have a bit of a night, where you could go down the pub and leave them to get drunk and gossip?

I got my girlfriend in by offering to try and recreate a citra ale she had at the pub and raved about, then helping her research about the hops and malts and flavours etc, then she wrote the recipe with me.

She LOVES the beer, only downside, seems like everything I brew now is citra!!!! But I have a girlfriend who is 100% on side with the brewing.

You lucky guy, has she a single sister???

Swazi included Mrs Swazi in his brewing sessions . . .then she went out and brewed a pale ale . . .that beat his in TST . . . . . . Be very careful what you bring upon yourself.

I sympathise with the OP . . . My brewery is named the Effinbrewery for a reason

Actually my wife is brilliant with my brewing. She keeps well out of the way, doesn't like beer cant stand the smell of the Mash or boil.
She even asks for permission to come into the brewery ( garage ) when I'm in there......
Total Bliss.
I am left alone to brew, or sit and contemplate the world, have a pint or so.....

She doesn't even moan when she's collecting numerous parcels of the postman for me.

She will even ask," Are you doing a brew this week ? "

I think she's got another fellow !

poor Bastard.
