I am new to brewing and have just completed only my second propriatery mix of Geordie Bitter. Whilst I have followed the instructions religiously on both occassions the beer comes out of the 40 pint pressured barrel under more pressure than I would expect. However the beer doesnt retain its head and is flat in next to no time but tastes acceptable.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

I dont think the barrel is injectable but I have primed the barrel with sugar as per the instructions ( 2.5 ounces ).

Thanks

It just needs time Doug.

After a week in the warm to secondary ferment, try and store it for three weeks in the cool around 5-8c. In that three weeks the liquid will absorb the co2, giving a head and carbonation that will last for longer...plus it will improve the taste of the kit :thumb:

If you have an injector cap,do you leave the bulb on when you have twisted the injector down ? :wha: :wha:

Mine has been great for a few weeks, but now its gone flat -still nice though!

Stephen

Having had a close look at the pressure barrel i suspect that I could purchase a Co2 injector cap to replace the existing 2 inch cap. Furthermore the temperature strip on the side of the barrel is showing 18 - is this too warm and ought I purchase an injector?

Thanks again

Once its injected Stephen, just unscrew it ....saying that if you leave it on you know exactly where you've put the bugger ;)

The cooler temps will aid in the absorption of the Co2 Doug

Hey, I know this is a really old thread but I have a relevent question to tag on.

I have a barrel of Young's Bitter that has been in the keg conditioning for 11 days now. The room gets up to about 19.5C, and we have the heating no higher than that. Is it too late to now put it in the garage for a week or so to cool and get carbonated? With the weather giving lows of around 6C-8C here over the next week, this would be a good time! Wotfink?
