Hi

I'm new to home brewing and just started my first batch a few days ago. I just completed making my own home bar and a friend got me a maxi 310 cooler and a tennents pub tap. Would anyone know if these can be used with the King Keg Top Tap or any other fill your own keg system? I don't want to spend a load of money on something I wont be able to use.

Also if it can be used, would I still need a CO2 setup or will the CO2 bulbs used in the King Keg Top Tap be enough?

Any help on what setup I should use or look into would be great. I'm totally new to this so have no idea.

Thanks
Baz

If you want to use the chiller and the tap I think you would be better off investing in a proper keg setup.

Cornelius kegs are very popular, search on here for cornelius/corny setup you will find loads of information about what you need.

The other option is to use a pub style keg, but you will need the correct tools to remove the spear from the keg so you can clean and refill them. I use crusader kegs with Sankey fittings for the storage and dispense of my beer. I keep the kegs in a fridge so don't need to use a chiller.

Oh, welcome to the forum :)

Inside my fridge I keep 4 kegs, and then either dispense through the taps on the front or a beer engine.

+1

u could do it but you would benefit from having a constant regulated gas supply to normalise the pour, with bulbs the pressure will yo yo, and so will the pour -> all the costs, hassle n flaws of both systems without many benefits

by the time you have modded the pb to accept a constant gas supply invested in the gas supply, and modded the tap to feed direct thru the chiller to the tap and balanced the pb pressure with microline or a flow control device. the additional cost of a real keg is nominal..

shelf chillers for home use dont need the constant running when used comercially either. i use one in the summer months and all u need is 30-45mins to drop the waterbath temp down to 0C when it starts to build up ice, and if only pouring 2-3 pints thats enough latent cold to chill your beers for the night.. and knock down tyhe following nights on time to 20-25 mins (its worthwhile modding to run the recirc or agitator independently so u can switch it on when not chilling to maximise the chillers effect)

a simple segment timer can be used to turn it on for your return home and a quick pint ;)

the icewall it builds up is a cold store for rush hour demands of pint after pint being poured..
