I've been away for a few days over at my parents house north of Glasgow. On Wednesday we decided to take the chance to head up Ben Lomond as the forecast was so good - it was also a good opportunity for my son to get his first Munro under his belt (a munro is a Scottish mountain that is over 3000ft high).

After scrapping the windscreen from a heavy frost overnight we headed up the east side of Loch Lomond to Rowerdennen and started in the freezing cold. You can see Ben Lomond for most of the drive there but fromt he carpark you cannot see the top so this first photo is after about 10 minutes walk up the path.

As we were heading up the views back down towards the south of Loch Lomond were great with the sun reflecting off of the water.

Cameron and I at the top - it was bloody freezing (we got him to do a victory pose but his heart wasn't in it  ). However thats his first Munro knocked off - only another 282 to go

Views of The Cobbler (left) and Ben Narnain (right) as we were walking back down the Ptarmigan Ridge.

Finally a nice one that was caught by Mrs D as we got caught in a light snow flurry.

It was a fantastic day and what made it special was that Ben Lomond was my first munro about 30 years ago when my dad dragged my up. :thumb:

What great views.... looks like a beautiful part of the world up there. My neighbour goes "Munro bagging", sounds sinister doesn't it, but I think he's well over the half way mark and going strong. I keep meaning to be cheeky and tag along with him.
We live closer to the Lakes and I went up Ambleside-way with my dad and brother and headed up near Kirkstone Pass and walked the surrounding '3 peaks'. A decent 16 mile walk but the low cloud was against us so didn't see much until late in the day. You look to have managed perfect viewing conditions but looks cold

My dad was telling us half-way around that he was our (me and brothers) age when he first took us hill walking. You gotta love abit of nostalgia and the hills certainly help clear the mind to let the important bits of life in!

Scrapping it sounds a bit drastic, couldn't you have just tried scraping it? ;)

Great pics, fabulous country :thumb:

I doubt if I've ever bagged more than a dozen, and those all much further North, but the views from the top can be sensational.

You are forgetting that I was just outside Glasgow - you need to fight for everything over there.

Amaizing scenery up there your so lucky to have such a beautifull part of the country if only the weather was more reliable
