I've just realised that I'm 2years & 2 weeks old in forum years.
Now I've had a quick look around, had a gander through the stickies, but can't find how this all started. I can remember taking a punt at what day & time the 4000 member would join...Here

I think the forum started around mid 2008 (may be wrong knowing me)...and I see we now have 7553, newest member taffy1870 :thumb:

I think most members knew each other from JBK with the idea to start a forum that is more light hearted regarding the brewing side and banter. :hmm:

I think that has been achieved but it is funto look in at the massive fights that take part on JBK

never been to jbk, but i do find that with forums that for me personally its a very marmite thing, on many occasions i have spent a year studying the forum and reading past searches to only go and do some thing stupid and sign up and join in, the last one was the largest cheese making forum in the planet, i have done two posts got shot to pieces thee most unhelpfull people every, signed out and back to ghost reading it again, there are many i read i would never ever sign up to as its far to out of my league.

i might go over there one day and have a look at the recipes but every thing i need is sat right here for me

so thanks people for the forum

That's about it BB :thumb: that's why this forum was set up, and I reckon we've done a good job to date
In the past on JBK when stainless gear/herms was mentioned (usually by me   ) there would be a counter post (by a minority) about plastic being just as good and HERMS not being necessary (its personal choice AFAIC, it all makes great beer). It made posting hard, and being on no fun (for us), so we (Wez, A T and myself) decided to set THBF up (Wez doing the hard work  ) and exclude that sort of minority behaviour, it's also one of the reasons there's a separate section for stainless/herms/rims on THBF. I don't have the time to post on JBK as well as THBF, I don't even post on THBF often enough ,...in fact to date I still think I've made more posts on Jims then THBF

Registered a few days ago, not had chance to have a good look around on there yet, dont like the layout though...

I have done the exact same in the past few days. The threads don't seem to be as good as the ones here though

Plus 1 and getting good advice on both. I suppose one will rise to the top ;)

Click on members top right and you'll see the forum was first 'membered' by Wez on Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:51 am
I've often found it curious that Wez at No.1 on that list is actually user #2, then Phil at No.2 is user #54 and Vossy at No. 3 is user #55.

Who was user #1 and what happened to users #2 to #53 inclusive?

I don't show up until page 15, No.374 and user #1219.

We're now up to 7560 members with the latest (julieshaz) being user #10564, so quite a lot have been lost along the way.

A lot of that is down to people who start the registration process but never click through on their validation emails, and who now get deleted after 1 month. And then there are the spammers.

Number is about to fall again as I've just spotted user #10558 with a web link selling pharmaceuticals.

I read and use both forums, along with the Aussie one and Graham Wheelers own one which is very quite. As Alanywiseman says there are sometimes massive fights on there which are normally interesting. One of the main antagonist, who went under the name of DaaB, then left and came back as Chris has been gone for a while after being asked to leave by Jim. He could have started a fight in an empty room. Graham Wheeler, who is a member, also has had some big bust ups, especially with an American author Kristen England over his yeast comparison chart. They have just celebrated 1/2 million posts which is a great achievement. There is certainly room for both forums.

I registered with both websites when I first started in july 2010, I started reading the posts on this forum first and came across all the info I needed and everyone was very helpful, theres so much I haven't yet read on here I've not even got time to look on JBK. The crystal decanter on here is superb, why go anywhere else?
