You've actually done really well to get a high efficiency and better than the recipe, many of us start low and get better as we improve our processes.
Consistency is key I suppose, when I was doing BIAB years ago I was all over the place. The beacon is a great machine so hopefully this is the start of something goodYou've actually done really well to get a high efficiency and better than the recipe, many of us start low and get better as we improve our processes.
You could liquor back with 3-5 litres of boiled and cooled water. That would dilute your 7% to 6% - 5.5% at the sacrifice of some bitterness. Remember, Hughes' was expecting a 23 litre batch so adding 5 litres it's not that much of a dilution. That's what I'm hoping for. If this one ferments down to 1010 then that's close to 7% abv. I only really want to make session beers around the 4-5% mark so looking forward to being more accurate
In my experience that makes a difference. Fresh and finely milled grain gave me a jump of 5% efficiency.I did crush my own grain as well, immediately before brewing so maybe that has helped as well
