Hi people, i'm new to this site and also new to home brewing. My name is Dean and I live in the South Wales area. I'm a coach driver, hence why I'm wrting this and trying my brew at such a strange hour. I've just got back from a short tour and have the weekend off

I've made 2 kits so far, the first being a 'Geordie' lager and the second being Cooper's Stout. The lager was alright but the stout is something special. I've been reading in silence for a few days and already picked up a few useful tips ( many thanks  ), especilly the one about drinking after just a few days after bottling!!!

This brew has been bottled since Monday (4 days) and am trying the first few now. I followed the instructions for this kit, ie 1kg white sugar 23l etc. and it is really, really nice. However I will be brewing another this weekend but using the muscavado/treacle combo I've seen on here.

Many thanks for the tips I've already picked up and look forward to chatting with and learning from you all :D

Cheers,
Dean

Hi & welcome to the forum... Looks like your on the right road to start with..(pardon the pun, I'm a trucker had to use it)

Hi Dean and welcome to the forum

We have quite a large South Welsh contingent, whereabouts are you?

Don't test too many of your bottles just yet, try to keep a few back and see how they improve after a month or two. Getting another brew started as soon as your bucket has been emptied is the best way to achieve that, so good luck with brew #3.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm in the Pontypridd area South Wales, just on the edge of the Rhondda Valleys.

I only sampled a few last night and intend keeping a few back for future testing. It tastes really nice and TBH I prefer this to Guiness.

The OG was 1042 and FG 1008, which according to an online calculator gives an abv of approx 4.5%......BUT, I don't know if I was overtired from driving all day but I think it may be a bit stronger than that, haha. Or is this the case with homebrew? does it have a different effect to shop bought beer?

I'm off now to buy the bits for my next brew. Catch you all later, and thanks again.

My lad's at Uni in Pontypridd so stick around on the forum and I might see if I can drop off a few bottles when Dad's Taxi is in your area. I've also got a Young's lager kit you're quite welcome to, Tesco were giving them away and I wanted the bucket and other things but will probably never brew the beer.

Any interest in wines or are you sticking with kit beers?

@Moley, yes mate let me know when you're in the area you are more than welcome to visit and sample a few and take some back to savour  and thank you for the offer of the lager kit, many thanks.

Being an ex rugby player wine is a waste of a clean glass! but I wouldn't mind having a go at wine. Firstly though I want to try and get the hang of beers
