Hi all

I have only been all grain brewing for a few months and i make 8 liter batches. my kit is basic as i only use a 14 liter stainless steel pan i got for £12 in Wilkos and a brewing bag that was £8. I have the usual basic hydrometer and trial jar, scientific thermometer and some food grade plastic 10 liter buckets to ferment in. I use grain from my local brew shop and spring water from 5 liter bottles, reusing the battles wherever i can ... they are surprisingly useful.

I have about 2 years experience making wine, mead and cider as cheap as possible, i started using plastic bottles as fermenters, balloons for airlocks and baby sterilizing fluid as my cleaner. I originally used only things you could get from a supermarket. Now of course i use Dextrose sugar and have a number of glass demijohns, bungs and airlocks but i still use mainly fresh or frozen fruit and honey from my local supermarket as i've had some good results with them if you let them age 6-12 months (not been able to resist saving anything longer)

I have ideas to improve my kit in future, i will be adding a tap and bazooka to my pan and maybe a Themowell and thermometer. i'll add a small quality mash tun in time and then one day when i have more room i'll start building a larger setup.

I have roughly 18 months theoretical research in making beer but only 4 months practical and very small scale. I think it will be more fun to learn from others from this point on and i've never really delved into the community side before so hi again.

Thank you all its nice to feel welcome.
i have a strawberry pale ale that is almost done fermenting (with real strawberries) and yesterday i made my first smash with maris otter and Mosaic hops. im flirting with the idea of doing a brewdog clone Ace of Chinook for my next batch, it wont be exact but it could be close.

Welcome to the forum.

I too have that same wilko stock pot and make small batches. As I type this I have a 6L all magnum blonde ale on the boil

BRETHREN! You write the lyrics and i'll drunkenly sing the songs! (translates loosely to english as - Awesone, nice to meet you)

If you fancy a bottle swap I have a white peach IPA I can send you.

Thank you for the offer, i cant do bottle swaps at present but i'd like to in future so can we put a pin in that one for now?

your beer sounds great, is there any fruit you know of that should be avoided when making beer?

Howdy! A good setup for a starter, 14 Liter is about half the regular recipes. :cheers7:
I also have some meads somewhere (3 L with fruits, 6 L sweet and semisweet show meads, and some JOAM), what was your favourite yeast for meads?

I use Mangrove Jacks Mead Mo5. My local brewer only stocks mangrove jacks so i usually pick one up when i get my grain. early on i used champagne yeast but it wasn't as good and it tended to carbonate over time

good way to go. you have to disconnect the safety cut outs though. would allow boil in a bag with an stc1000.
