Hi all,
Greetings from Malvern.
I was a very lucky chap last Christmas. Along with the usual socks and other surplus to requirements bits and pieces, Santa managed to deliver a Woodfordes Wherry beer kit :D
I have to admit, after reading the kit instructions and watching some online videos (yes, the ones about brewing!) I found the whole brewing process very straight forward and largely problem free,.... apart from a leaking keg tap which took a while to resolve. After six weeks in the keg the resultant brew was a very commendable session beer, albeit a slightly cloudy one.
I did bottle around half of the kegs contents, pre-priming the bottles first with 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon of sugar. Some were stored in the fridge some at room temp. After 3-4 weeks in the bottle I found that the taste, carbonation and head retention didn't quite match up to the quality of the kegged beer. I'm still at a loss to why this should be.
I've now completed a second brew based on a partial extract HobGoglin clone recipe listed in Graham Wheeler's excellent book. The partial extract process was far more enjoyable and involving, even though it took much longer to complete and my other half was somewhat unappreciative of the lovely smell that pervaded the house! As It's been four weeks in the keg I sampled a dram last night. It's terrific, better than expected. I'm really chuffed to bits with the outcome....even more so when i think about the cash i'm saving!
I don't think it will be long before i'm enveloped by the dark side of Allgrain.

Hi from Upton , same as you ,I was bought the same kit with an extra keg for last Xmas.

Haven't gone on the the dark side yet , I'm quite happy with what I'm producing at present.

I get my water from Hayslad in West Malvern .

I sometimes have a drink in the Nags Head , great pub ,fantastic choice of ales, but I frequent the Marlbank more frequently.

Hi Pearlfisher.
We're very fortunate in having free spring water right on our door step. I've used it for both brews with no adverse effects.
What have you brewed so far?
The Nags Head is perhaps one of the best pubs in Worcestershire. Great atmosphere, great people and a wonderful range of real ales, but like you i don't get there that often and when i do i'm frustrated in only being able to have the one pint because of the drive home afterwards. The Chase pub, Upper Colwall is owned by the same people so it serves some decent ales too. Least I can freewheel home down the hill on my bike!
I'm considering getting another keg so i can vary the style of beers. Problem is I don't have a garage and the kitchen is already looking cluttered with bits of kit. So far the other half has been very relaxed about it but it can only be a matter of time before she kicks off.

We've been to the Chase a few times good pub.

So far I've made -

10g Forester's Amber Citrus Burst - from POPS in Cheltenham
5g Forester's Golden Citrus Blast
10g Brupak Linthwaite Light
5g Brewmaker Essential Bitter
5g Better Brew IPA
1g Youngs Chardonnay
1g Beaverdale Shiraz
1g Beaverdale Cabernet Suavignon
1g Welch's White
1g Richard's Red
1g Ribena Wine
1g WOW blush.

I've Brupak Whitbeer , Better Brew Mild , Brewmaker Irish Velvet Stout , 30 bottles kits of Vintners Sauvignon Blanc and World Vineyard Shiraz to make when I've empty kegs and enough bottles.

If you're passing through Upton anytime , please pop in and sample some of my efforts ,we're just by the Marina.

Good God Pearlfisher, you have been busy! I'm only on my second brew.
I used to make wine kits when i was a student, many years ago now, but i've not done anything since. I think I still have the demi-johns knocking about somewhere, probably lurking in the deep recesses of my garden shed. I've been comtemplating making a ginger beer and/or a Sauvignon Blanc wine kit, so maybe its time for me to go on a demi-john hunt. I've even been looking into making a Kreik speciality beer, but from what i've found out so far, it is well above my beginners ability level and would cost an arm + leg in cherries! Still something to look forward too when i get a little more experienced and win the lottery.
I've heard about Golden Citrus Blast, its one of many on a 'to-do' list, although next in line is going to be a partial extrat Timothy Taylor Landlord.
Next time i'm in cheltenham i'll make a note to drop into POPs. My nearest home brew supplier is apparently based at Kerby Farm, Birtsmorton. I did make a quick excursion to Birtsmorton but failed to find it. So now, I generally order all my requirements on line.

Thank you for your kind invite. I suspect i'll be around and about Upton during one or more of the up coming festivals. Similarly, if your ever intend passing through Colwall let me know, I'd be more than happy to let you sample my meagre effort, albeit a very restricted choice of one!

Farmers Arms at Birtsmorton is a great pub , we had the best steaks there we've ever had a few weeks ago ,very reasonable too , they tend to serve the beer flat though.

A Morrison's employee told me they sell homebrew equipment at a phamacist's just up the road from Morrisons in Malvern, but I'm not sure where he meant.

Welcome to the forum hotstuff

Thanks for the welcome alchemy. My missus thinks I get more like a certain Mr. Meldrew each day. Personally I don't believe it!

there is a place in the middle of Pershore market that sells home brew equipment, if that's not too far away.
I got some brown flip top bottles from there once.

though I'm not sure entirely what they do stock.

My In Laws live in Upper Colwall, and my parents live in Worcester
