Hi all,

I am Brian 35 and live in leeuwarden, the netherlands.

I just started with my first batch of apple cider with fresh AJ from the supermarket and was trying to get info about cider making. Came by this site and started reading all about cider and wine and i realy enjoy the forum and how helpfull everyone is here and how small or weird the question there is always a good answer.

So it was time to make an account and join the discussion :)

I am realy dutch born in near rotterdam and living in leeuwarden for about 6 years now :).

My dad was Dutch, born in Roermond, and I still have relatives over there, hence the question  ...you'd probably have guessed from the surname Vossen...so user Vossy1

Ah that explains because in your profile i saw manchester :).

Tnx mick for the basic steps I just started and made a small batch first to see how the proces works.
I used 5 liters of AJ the pausturized juice and 1 liter of pear juice and made a starter from some of the AJ with some sugar and yeast.
Put it in the bin with airlock and see how it will turn out.

when I am somewhat further in the proces i will share how i lost my brewing virginity

This forum is such a inspiration i probably will get some more small buckets to start experimenting with some flavors and probably try some wine too :).

Pasteurised juice probably won't work bud. It needs to be non pasteurised (No potassium sorbate or any other fermentation stoppers).

You're looking for 100% juice, either as it is or from concentrate is fine, with no added anything if possible. Asda smart price apple juice is the one I use (62p a litre or something like that), the 1L cartons as the 1.5L cartons have additives.

Where did you get the pear juice? I've wanted to try a juice perry for ages.

Scott the AJ i used is warmed to 85 degrees and then bottled, at least that is what the label says. The pearjuice is homebrand Albert Hein a big dutch super market. they sell it in 1 liter bottles and it only contains Ascorbic acid.

After I started the first batch I found this forum and learned about the TC from the aldi AJ. But will see how it turns out i am still in the experimenting fase :)

Ahhahhh. So it's pasteurised simply with heat? That'll be fine then :D

Yes the AJ is heated probably to get out the juice and then bottled.. you also have to drink it in 4 weeks so i hope its good and fresh.. Also found a apple whole sale that makes their own AJ from a mix of apples and some pears also just heated to preserve :). So will order one pack of 5 liters later on to see how that will turn out :)

And after done 2 basic batches i want to add some fresh fruit and see how that will go.. But got to much inspiration reading here :P
