Hi only just starting on my brewing journey and need lots of help. Obviously I'm going to be reading through all instructional topics and will probably learn a lot.

Iv started with making ginger beer as it seemed easy and I only had enough money at the time for a plastic demijon, hydrometer, yeast and sterilising solution. Anyway checked the hydro before fermenting and it read 1.050 and after fermentation it read 1.025. What have I done wrong? As far as I'm aware it should be down towards 1.000. The only thing I can think is that the temperature difference at start and finish were quite different. Any help would be brilliant cheers

Sounds more like it just hasn't finished...

...Hi by the way.

I tested mine at the weekend, started 1.048, currently 1.008 and I used mostly malt in mine so I'm expecting it to finish about there.

What recipe did you use? How long's it been going for? What makes you think it has finished?

Hi there, another newbie here.

I put a batch of ginger beer on over the weekend, seemed like an easy way to start :thumb:

Mine is bubbling away nicely now and has been for a couple of days. Started at 1.048, no idea what it is on now though...

How long has yours been going?

The recipe I used was simple. Ginger, sugar, honey, lemon juice, yeast and water. I left it to ferment for 5 days. I have a clear plastic demijohn and on the 5th day it was completely still. No bubbles no foam nothing. It even started to clear. Iv bottled it and let it carbonate. Iv drank a couple of bottles now it tastes lovely and is well carbonated. I must of just read the hydro wrong at one point or another. It was my first brew after all.
