just trialled my pid and kettle HERMS with water through the mash tun. there was noticeably less temperature surge than with the atc800 (which i only used in desperation because of setting up problems with the pid which delayed things).
however i found that system performance on a ''water only'' mash was very different to doing a proper mash. it will be intersting to see if this is true with the pid also.
i have used a novus n322 pid, which doesn't seem to be very popular on here, but has the advantage of not requiring an SSR for my kettle based system. one thing that concerned me was the different temp readings of the pid connected pt100 and my own standard thermometers when all placed together. the pt100 was reading about 1.5degC higher than the 2 thermometers which were within 0.1degc of each other.
which one is right? have there been any problems with the n322?
on my test i was getting a maximum surge of 0.9degC is that acceptable?
