The entire world agreed that the use of chemical weapons in warfare is abhorrent, as it absolutely is, so as a first world nation and a beacon of democracy it is our duty in conjunction with our allies to deter and prevent the present and future use of said weapons. I for one agree whole heartedly that this monster should be given a bloody nose.
This can be blamed totally on the lack of response by the Obama regime. He bottled the decision to punish Assad when he crossed the so called red line allowing Russia to stroll in and build up forces in an already unstable country.
This man Must be made to pay the price for such an abomination.

C'mon guys, we have got to secure that oil supply, no matter what!
As has been mentioned, the last few foreign incursions have hardly ended well. Sorry, it's NONE of our business, and we are not the worlds policeman. Sort out at home and thats it. Frankly with the amount of syrian refugees/migrants coming out, I'm amazed there's anyone left there at all.

None of our business, get your head out man. And yes at any cost, this cannot be swept under the carpet like Obama did before or it will continue and the proliferation of said weapons will continue unabated.

And I suppose when we got involved in Bosnia that was all about oil as well....... that argument is getting so boring. This is about the use of an illegal chemical weapon. We Britain have only involved ourselves in Iraq in the destroying of Isis targets and US forces in Syria to do the same. No one except Russia has put soldiers on the ground in Syria. If it was about oil this would have been the first action.
As an ex soldier who serve in all theatres of war not once were any of our units sent to secure or guard one oil refinery or pipeline.

How exactly do you know that the Russians are using chemical weapons on our streets?
They deny it and our experts have been unable to confirm the source.
Same goes for whatever happened in Syria. The source is very suspect, no samples have been made available and Assad had nothing to gain.

It stinks of manipulation of public opinion (remember the run-up to the second Iraq war?) and a pretence for war to me.

As for your laughable claim that we destroyed ISIS...
We created ISIS - just like we created the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

I think we should retaliate with our chemical weapons and swamp Russia and her allies with alcopops. Yes it would be easy to trace back to the UK, but strictly speaking it's immoral but not illegal. It wouldn't have much of an immediate effect, except for the odd casualty due to the "Why are you looking at my girlfriend" effect but after about 30 years they would be crippled by liver failure.

Mentioning Bosnia doesn't automatically negate someone else’s point of view about the possible strategic significance of a conflict in another part of the world, does it?

Something being strategically significant, possibly relating to our need for fossil fuels, doesn't necessarily boil down to boots on ground guarding refineries, does it?

Reducing all of these complex and risky situations to a boozed up bar room twatting probably isn't going to help us understand the potential repercussions of our actions, is it?

Yep - I think after a while we'll think the Blair 'dodgy dossier' thing was a bit quaint. Trump doesn't need or even want to see evidence (even sexed up). He's beleaguered at home, mocked everywhere. He needs a good war to boost his ratings.

A bit like Maggie did.

Having said that. I suspect a good part of this is posturing. If Trump and May can fire a few missiles in the direction of some vaguely 'chemically' looking buildings then they'll do that, providing it is not close to Russian military or diplomatic installations.

The targeting would have that as a primary directive - don't accidentally hit the Russians (or the Iranians, probably too).

Secondary would be....do your very best not to obliterate a school or hospital or a block of flats full of orphans.

After that....there would be a shortlist of buildings and warehouses that could plausibly be labelled as labs or chemical storage.
