i have a ribena wine cooling down prior to testing og and the same with a wow. the 1st wow i did ended up at 9% and looks welll and taste good but this wow ive made a bit stronger not sure how much stronger yet because ive added an extra 50g sugar and an extra 1/2 litre of orange juice but im using a gervin wine yeast this time instead of youngs wine yeast.
do i add all that to my 4.5 litre batch and do i have to make the starter as mentioned on packet?

its a gervin gv4(26)

When I used that yeast, i added it to a sterilized mug, added sugar, and 30 mins later it looked like a loaf of bread.
Don't worry. It's a very active yeast! You could add the pack and recycle the yeast after if you wanted. It's a good technique to learn cash wise!

You would usually regard those sachets as being for one batch of up to 5 gallons, or maybe 2 x 1 gallon started at the same time.

Pitch half into each, or mix up a starter bottle and split it, your choice.

Starter bottle would probably be better, but I'd pitch dry.

thanks for that guys i think ill go the pitching route. as for the recycling yeast ill be googling that one :)

I normally use 1/2 a pack of Gervin/Lalvin for a 1 gallon batch, as long as you intend to use the remaining yeast fairly soon. I always pitch dry (then give a good shake) and it all comes out fine.
