Help on wyeast starter

Hi all I'd like to do a wyeast starter, can someone please advise me on the amount of maris otter I have to mash to get the right gravity for the wyeast,it's for 3 litres will split into 6 / 500ml bottles.

If it's for a yeast starter why don't you use dried pale malt?
400gms disolved in 3ltrs water will give a gravity of around 1040.
This is how I grow my yeast cultures.

EV is correct, just use DME as it does the job just as well for splitting a wyeast.

If you really want to mash to create the wort for your starter, you'll need around 600g of pale malt to get an OG of 1.040 ish in 3L :thumb:
I have in the past used a Thermos flask to successfully mash small quantities of malt

I have some starters that i've grown on to split, I used 200g DME in 2L
