Hi I have had my 1st go at batch priming i used 100g of sugar in 23l of milestone bitter i just opened my first bottle and it went everywhere ! Did I use to much sugar? Is there anything I can do now?

That doesn't sound too much sugar for foaming bottles , but maybe a little too much for a bitter .I would of thought if your getting that problem either it didn't finish fermenting or you haven't stored it cold long enough to allow the co2 to be absorbed into the beer , try popping 1 into the fridge over night to see if its either fine or reduces the effect . If still no good i would pop em all into fridge (to reduce foam )then open em and recap em or if they foam everywhere then its open them and chuck away before you get bottle bombs

Yes 100g isn't a huge amount I use 4g/L for bitter. As Pitsy said had it completely finished fermenting? I always wait a week after initial fermnetation before bottling making sure the beer is completely clear. If it has cleared then that is usually a good sign that it has completely stopped and ready for the bottle.

I've been experimenting for a while with batch priming, certainly 100g shouldn't get 'fountains' would think as others have said it hadn't finished fermenting

I think beer god pittsy is right I had it in primary for 10 days then secondary for 4 days then into bottle bin I think I should have left it in primary for 2 weeks I bottled it after getting same reading 2 days running. The beer does taste very good! What bit I have left!
