hello everyone,

i am 6 days into my first brew. its a coopers lager micro-brew kit. i used to brew from kits when i was 18-19 for about 3 years (blimey - 20 years ago!!!). just decided to get back into it. starting off with kits but want to get a bit more adventurous later. am normally a bitter drinker, occasional lager for a change, not sure why i decided to start off with lager!

am due to use the hydrometer around saturday to check if brew is ready for bottling. can't remember using one in the past so am a bit unsure/nervous about what to do/getting it right,so any tips/advice would be appreciated.

anyway, looking forward to it all, can't wait to start drinking.

Welcome back to a great hobby, and welcome to the forum

There's a useful guide to using hydrometers here, but if there's anything you don't understand don't hesitate to ask.

The main thing with brewing is that if you're thinking of bottling on Saturday you should probably take a hydrometer reading on Thursday, and if then if it hasn't changed by Saturday it should be safe to bottle.

thankyou,

will have a good look at the guide.

appreciate your reply.

am so looking forward to my first drink!

hello all

just done my first hydrometer test, will do another tomorrow to see if its (lager) is ready for bottling. the reading came out as 1.010,however the beer seemed very cloudy,is this normal????

Yes it is normal - just leave it a couple of days and give the yeast a chance to begin dropping out.
