Hi everyone. New brewer alert!

Moved house end of last year and inherited a fridge and freezer in my garage. Was about to dump them when someone suggested I could use them for brewing so that's what I've done.

First attempt has been a coopers Australian Lager which has been in the fv for 2 weeks now. Fridge has been hooked up to a home built stc1000 controlled box along with a heat band which has kept the fv at 18 for the duration.

Plan on using a second stc1000 on the freezer to make a layering fridge but not got to that yet ;-)

Will let you all know how my first brew works out.

Cheers, Zed

18C is too low perhaps, Suggest 20C?

-2C at this end of the scale can easily double fermentation time.

Have a look at the Coopers site, they generally suggest pitching above 20C and brewing at or around that figure for Ales.

You should be in a position to brew great beer with proper temp control. Stay with it!

Thanks for the advice Slid. I gave it a gentle stir yesterday to see if that would get it going but this morning there was no noticeable change. I'm slowly raising the temperature up to 20 to see if that helps.

Calibrated my hydrometer while I was waiting and it calibrated at 1002 at 20c so I will factor that in when I do my next reading.

Will let you know what happens.
