As everyone was, once, I guess,
I'm about to take the plunge into brewing beer...
For business.

I have a Japanese (local) partner who will be helping with startup costs and,
as a successful restauranteur, some business acumen, I hope.

I'm originally from California, where I brewed once, from a kit, back in Berkeley days.

Now Mr. Takanami and I are going to try to start a 1 BBL "fresh" beer take out brewery
in our little corner of Japan.

My first homework from the financier was to get some estimates on 1BBL turnkey systems.

So many just online, usually charging at least $10,000 US to ship from Western USA to Japan.

So, experienced brewers, can you point me in any good directions --not only for brewing equipment but any other "old hand" tricks and warnings?

Please don't tell me to give it up...I'm still in the honeymoon phase.

Best to all of you,

Charlie in Japan

China to Europe sea shipping is still super expensive. Still 3-4 times more than usual.
I was talking to another startup brewery yesterday and his shipping quote went up from about £1000 to £4000 for basically a pallet.
From China to Japan I have no idea...

At 1BBL there's a good choice of complete brewhouse kit out there. Not from China, but I like this 1 bbl | Nano Brewhouse
Over at Alibaba take a look at '1bbl brewhouse'. I can't recommend any particular vendors, but I do see Tiantai and Tonsen mentioned quite often.
I was lucky and found local 2BBL UK kit available, but as and if we scale I think China is where we will be looking.

Make sure you are fully up to speed with the local laws and regulations. I'm sure you know this.

Maybe talk to Matthew Boynton at Sakamichi Brewing.
He's a Brit who started a micro brewery in Japan recently

This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.
Thank you!
