Does anyone have an idea whether silicone hose will significantly reduce my heat losses over all copper tube plumbing ? I dont have miles of the stuff but I'm wondering if having it all hard plumbed means that everything in the rig acts as one huge thermal mass and makes the job of maintaining any particular temperature more (energy) costly than it needs to be.

I shouldn't worry about it, I've just hard plumbed my set-up with 15mm copper and it works fine. Maybe consider putting some foam lagging on it. If anything it might stop you burning your arms on hot pipes.
