Hawkshead Brewery won four Golds, a Silver and a Bronze at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) North West Region Beer Competition last week.
The breweryââ¬â¢s bottled beer Tonka beat 81 other small pack (bottle and can) beers to be declared overall champion. Windermere Pale scooped the overall Silver medal, both beers having won gold medals in their respective categories (Speciality and Standard Bitters & Pale Ales).
Lakeland Lager also won Gold in Bottle Premium Lager & Pilsners and IPA Bronze in Premium Strong Beers.
260 beers from 50 breweries were blind tasted at the annual competition held at the Macron Stadium, Bolton. Beers are tasted in several rounds and are judged by a panel of approximately 100 independent craft brewers, beer industry representatives and experienced beer drinkers.
ââ¬ÅItââ¬â¢s been a busy year and to come away with these awards is brilliant, Iââ¬â¢m particularly pleased that Tonka not only won its category, but took overall championââ¬Â said Head Brewer Matt Clarke, ââ¬ÅTonka and Windermere Pale couldnââ¬â¢t be more different and weââ¬â¢re delighted the judges appreciated both the complex, dark, rich flavours of Tonka and those of Windermere Pale - a low strength hoppy pale ale.ââ¬Â
Tonka, Windermere Pale and Lakeland Lager will now all be entered into the SIBA National Finals which take place at BeerX in Sheffield (16-19th March 2017).
