Hi all

Just knocked up a simple pale ale and used a 5l bottle style FV for the first time, and am worried it's a little too full....

What do you reckon? Have I got a mess on my hands?

A bit close for me, i would either take a little out or put a bowl under it 😅

Not too much head space for a krausen.

Cheers all.

I thought that as soon as I pitched... What a wally...

I will attach a blow off tube or keep an eye and swap the airlock when necessary (with a spray of Star San)...

I pitched around 5-6g of yeast, so will I lose any and effect fermentation through loss of yeast during over-spill????

What yeast did you use? It’ll probably all drop to the bottom before it erupts so I wouldn’t worry much beyond catching the overflow

Colm89 - Thanks for the reply..The Wilko English ale yeast which i think is Nottingham (from research but may be wrong).... Not worried now about fermentation...

Clint - Indeed, it's only fair. Pictures to accompany the naming and shaming for such a basic mistake. I'm a proper nause..

If it were me, as soon as it starts rocking and rolling, I'd take the lid off and put an inverted glass or a cup over the top.
On the other hand, it might just fizz along gently. Wouldn't count on it though.
Most of all, don't worry if it does start boiling over, most of it will be surplus yeast and everything's going fine.

Oh this is going to be entertaining. Hope you haven't stood it on something you care about :)

See my latest post in the TC forum- mine had a little more head room and blew the top of the airlock off. Now running a blowoff tube but glad it was stood in a bucket! Good luck OP!
