That and Skol....... (they were always the cheapest from the local corner shop as a kid! Er, I mean as an 18 year old... )

I study in Cornwall and love drinking ale here in the UK, but not really lager because most it available here tastes quite boring. When I am back home in Germany I like drinking lager again, because we have broader taste range of lager, similar to the ale variety here.
Most lagers here are also foreign lagers, correct me if I am wrong but I think the only widely available British lager is Carling and Tennents. Skinners brewery from Truro, Cornwall does a lager called "Skindog" which is quite nice though.

I agree with you and I think thats what the article was getting at.

Most lager you guy in pubs in the UK on tap are pretty boring. Pubs seem to be getting better at having guest lagers like they have done for ever with ales. Its nice to find a decent European lager guesting in a pub.

My biggest problem is that while a guest Ale in a pub will often be very reasonably priced, a guest Lager is often quite the opposite!! They are usually very expensive which is a shame. Cant blame them I suppose as they have to be imported rather than driven in from the brewery down the road......

I think (& hope) that Britain isn't falling out of love with lager, but with $hit beer.

In order to try and open my eyes to all the different styles of lager me and my mate gave up ale last lent. I discovered some amazing beers that i would have previously overlooked. I'd love to be able to get more "real" lagers. :thumb:

Not quite the worst.....

Both trumped by Gateshead Federation Brewery's ACE lager, made famous in the Viz comic - 8 cans for £1.49.
We called it 'Barbie Lager' - you could start drinking it in the early afternoon with the BBQ on and continue well into the night with no adverse effects

Truly 'Gnats p*ss'

Robinsons Brewery (Stockport) are now starting to switch from Becks 4 and Carling to Hawkshead Lakeland Lager!

Good times

Sadly many of the CAMRA folks around here are calling it crap as its not ALE.. but surly its better than usual crap and even if its not my £'s would rather be put in the pocket of a localish business than a multinational!

The gent I spoke to said well its lager were not the campaign for real lager! I did point out that lager doesn't have to be 'bad' just because its not ales I could prob name as many if not more bland tasting real ales as I could keg lagers! I wondered off tutting and thinking vengeful thoughts

So CAMRA is the campain for real ale, mabe someone should try to support the ***** brews out there.

Boddingtons being one, John Smiths and Worthingtons are also woeful. What about some of the Lagers....Brewed from broken biscuits and old bus tickets... Heineken and as for Fosters... I would rather drink my own piddle

Lager presay is not bad. Just go to the German Speaking areas of Belgium and you will find amazing lager style beers! Arg..

If its not 'naturally aspirated' then its not REAL ALE.. I like my fake ale I make in my house...
