I really like this pub
It does the lot, posh food, posh lounge bar an then the snug/tap room
Can't beat a real fire
I started with a pint of Maisels weisse a nice clean wheat beer with good carbonation and a banana and clove aroma.
The usual wheat sourness to start, next comes that slight burnt / caramel taste, followed by a glorious banana after taste
Next up was a pint of Radford ale from the house brewery.
A porter type ale (as described by the brewer who was in the bar :) )
A dark ale with an initial smack of bitterness, followed by a complex roast malt flavour.
It was slightly too hoppy for the style for me, but that is just my personal tastes.
Next up was Ikneild pale ale at 3.8%
This picture does not do the pint justice :nono:
You can see how clear it is but, not the colour it is a pale straw colour almost pilsner pale
Oh the taste :thumb: It is styrians (or equivalent) all the way, aroma, initial taste and after taste fekking lovely, it has a good malt balance with enough sweetness but oh those styrians
Penultimate pint Oakham JHB.
To see the pints side by side you couldn't tell this from the Ikneild IPA but where that was styrians this was fuggle all the way
apart from the hopping the beers were identical :wha: or it could be that my taste buds were starting to fail :hmm:
Final pint was a Hobsons mild.
Again although I love mild this one disappointed me as it had far too much roast barley taste for me
I want my milds to be sweet not full of burned barley taste, but again that's just my tastes :thumb:
Through all this I was wearing my birthday present from my ladies
