Ok so apologies if this topic has been covered before but what is the best way of curing a hangover for you guys. Obviously everyone is different so i'll start:
Nurofen plus and about 7 pints of water usualy does the trick other than hair of the dog that is

fry up with 2 pints of water

if symptoms persist then salt and vinegar crisps and a bottle of sprite

If symptoms still persist then a pint at the nearest free house :thumb:

My method is thus:

Pint of water before bed with 2 ibuprofen. If that doesn't work or I forget/pass out:

Large fryup (anyone sensing a theme?!), large cup of decent coffee, pint of water or orange juice, 2 paracetamol, 2 ibuprofen.

Hair of the dog sometime in the afternoon :thumb:

first proto call is a ice cold can of coke

second is bacon sandwich

then repeat until your pigment finds its way back to your skin

Bacon butty and orange juice :thumb:

Although don't tend to drink that much these days

older and wiser  ............ well one out of the two

heh heh older and wiser but much more susceptible to them as I get older!

I try to drink as much water as I can stomach before I go to bed. This has two major advantages - 1. It definitely reduces the effect of the hangover and rehydrates, and 2. I can tell how bad it's going to be by degrees in the one thousand visits to the toilet through the night.

In the morning I have a dry biscuit really only so I'm not throwing ibuprofen onto an empty stomach and then I find the fry-up only works if I leave eating until I just can't stand it any longer. The fry-up has to include at least 3 eggs - preferably poached.

(Everything else has to be deep-fried though :D )

Whats a hangover?
Never had one in me life - the Mrs suffers big time but swears by Ibruprufen taken with 2 pints of water before bed!

Fry-up with lots of liquid (pure orange good, supplemented with water).

Couple of paracetamol if really bad (although going back to bed at this point, if possible, better).

Awake for light lunch.

Eat Lunch.

Attend Pub.

Return home. Eat Dinner. Full roast good.

Go to bed.

Obviously, this only really works on a Sunday, nad I'm jiggered if I have time for it these days, but I'm sure that's what I did as a yoof!

I'm with you. You might feel slightly better come the morning but excessive water consumption just before bed = toilet frenzy = sleep deprivation = feeling crap anyway. You can run but you can't hide, that's my take on this issue. And it gets worse as you get older. A good brekkie with good coffee may alleviate the suffering, though. Especially if followed by a spicy meal (preferably Chinese/Indian/Thai) later in the afternoon.

 I might hate you.

First defense is to stop drinking when I start to feel I've had too much :thumb: I've got better at that over the years

Second defense used to be Berocca - take one dissolved in water before you go to bed and another in the morning. Huge amounts of vitamins.

Next would be ice cold coke, ice cold orange juice, very strong espressos, and bacon, LOTS of bacon!

Can't tell you my source, but believe me this works medically

1. Before you start drinking at all take a Milk Thistle tablet

2. Before bed, pint of water, an antacid (Zantac) and one 200mg Ibufrofen tablet. Another Milk Thistle

3. In the Morning, pint of water, 2 Paracetomol 500mg, Milk Thistle, Vitamin B tablet and greasy breakfast

You absolutely MUST avoid

- acidic foods, such as orange juice, or juicy fruits
- dairy products

Couple of hours after breakfast have a multivitamin tablet with a banana and more water

Light lunch, like a chicken salad with more water, you'll be well back on track by them.

Theres a bit of science behind this which I wont bore you with, give it a try and tell me how you get on.

To be scientific, a hangover is a mixture of various toxins in the body and dehydration. So lets take it apart:

Dehydration - Sports drinks are isotopic and therefore the body absorbed their liquid faster than water alone. So drink Licasade or similar to rehydrate yourself ultra fast.

Weird Toxins - There is not much you can do here but support your body's natural processes. Eating a load of fat and alcohol isn't going to do that, so some vitamin tablets, healthy breakfast and fruit will do more than any sausage will. Also, get out and active. Go for a walk outside, swimming, or even shopping. Get the blood pumping and the body metabolising.

Prevention? - Call me boring, but when your drinking enough to get hungover, your drinking past the point where your enjoying the drink and are now drinking to get more drunk. Fair enough, not really for me. I think I prefer to have one drink I enjoy than 4 I don't.

:drink:

Yes indeed

have to disagree with you there I'm afraid, as I get older I find it much easier to get hangovers. I can have a hangover after drinking 2 or 3 pints of a 4% beer. I'm damn sure I enjoyed that third beer
:D

Interesting stuff... Next time I'll omit the orange juice!
