Went to the Pumphouse in Liverpool last night. Which is quite a busy weekend pub due to its location at the Albert Dock, but was fairly quite after a meal out. They usually have a few different ales on and i try to taste when i can.

Yesterday they had Nutty Black from Thwaites, which i have tried before. Something called Bohemian, which the barrel finished just as i went to order and the above Twisted Wheel. The pump clip had a Mod theme to it, looking like the famous The Who album cover.

Pump clip said something along the lines of light ale with hints of ginger and spice. I love ginger so thought i would give it a go.

Smelled of a good amount of ginger with no dicernable hop aroma. It at least smelled appealing. But that changed when i tasted it. Virtually no ginger taste apart from a unpleasant aftertaste which remineded me of cleaning solutions or medicinal like taste. Sent it back and changed it for a Greene King IPA which i'm pretty sure falls under the false advertising regulations as it is never very bitter or hoppy. But cant help feeling they should have gone one way or the other with the ginger in the beer. They just seem to have played it safe.

Ah well, maybe next time.

being honest, i dont think i've ever had a "greene king" brand beer I enjoyed. their "yardbird" as a "craft ale" is laughable, insepid, super low mash temp "crap."

the old speckled/golden/crafty hens are lovely, on the other hand. golden hen on draft is amazing!

They had a American IPA type beer about 4-5 months back which was pretty good. But being a stag do i never took notice of its name.
