General question really, do alot of woodfordes kits and i can never get my final reading as low as i'd like, most level out between 1012-1014. First few kits were youngs one can kits (which were rubbish) but finished at 1000. Have read the how to guides, mix everything thoroughly to aerate the wort and keep it between 18-21 deg while its fermenting but still finish quite high :wha: Is there anything else i can do to help, or just accept that's the best i'll get with a woodfordes kit?

Jon

I'd guess the Youngs kits had more sugar which made them
a) finish lower
b) taste rubbish.

I only ever did one wherry but I think it ended up 1012-1014, seems to be the norm unless they stick at 1020.

Well, Ray Ashcroft (founder of Woodfordes) formulated his recipes and brewing procedure to leave a little bit of residual sweetness in the beers, 1.012 to 1.014 is more or less spot on, and certainly for All grain mashed beers that would be considered an ideal FG . . .Certain yeasts like US 05 have the potential to reduce this a bit further

cheers guys guess i'm about right then, won't get too hung up bout getting it lower then. Thats whats great about this forum, quick friendly answers from more experienced brewers :)
