Hi All
Just driven past a maltings in Castleford today, Fawcetts which is only 8 miles from home and I never realised they were there, so found them on the internet and have pinged them an e-mail to ask whether I can get a 25kg sack direct.
Does anyone else do this (not necessarily with the same maltster)? and if so how much do you pay for a sack?

Andy

It depends on if I get it as a 'commercial' brewer or a home brewer . . . Home brewer is about 25 quid a sack . . . I can't tell you what the commercial rate is

Fawcetts is good malt, and if you can pick it up that makes it even cheaper too

that's the thing aleman - 1nr 25kg sack is hardly commercial, although at around 25 quid that would be a 5 quid saving on what I paid for the last :thumb:

Why dont you get a few forum members to ask if they want a couple of sacks Fawcetts told me that if you order 10 sacks it would be around £160 :thumb:

Sounds good to me.
If anyone fencies a couple of sacks of Fawcetts pale malt and are willing to pick them up I would be happy to buy and pick them up from the maltsters.
PM me could do with at least five of us.
Hopefully they will be around £16.00 a sack, however I have e-mailed them to confirm

Great idea. We could do this on a regional basis - there's loads of you ee eckythumpers and there's a fair few of us in the Derby / Nottingham / Burton area.

Only trouble from my perspective at the moment is 'er indoors is already whingeing about the spare bedroom now being occupied with two fridges, two hundred bottles of beer, two 25kg sacks of malt and two FVs filled with 3 or 5 kg bags of speciality malts. Shoving 10 sacks up there, even on a temporary basis, would be grounds for a divorce.

Now there's a thought - so long as I get custody of the yeasts.

Rang Fawcetts today spoke to James Fawcett he says he will sell 10 25 kilo sacks for £170 which makes it £17 a sack just need a few people to invest and someone who lives close to fawcetts with a big car

I have a zafira which should fit in easy enough, but live close enough to do a couple of trips if needed. Could really do to get it sorted out as I need a new sack pretty soon. :thumb:

Hi

A few of us on JBK have done this for the past year or two. Realy drops the price of Malt! I'm getting to the end of my base malt supplies so would like to get in on this one please. I'd be good for a few sacks of different malts. I also live/work close enough to help out with transport if needed!

Cheers

Whoever is interested it this deal from Fawcetts
Dear Mark

The cost of 10 by 25kg sacks of Maris Otter would be as follows:

Pre-Milled £156.00

Whole £154.75

Cost of 10 by 25kg sacks of Golden Promise Malt:

Pre- Milled £158.75

Whole £157.5

You do not need to have 10 sacks of the same malt. You could have any different malt as long as the overall order came to ten sacks.

Hope this helps.

All best

James Fawcett

This is the email they sent me yesterday, I think for those who wants a sack or two should get in touch with easy peasy to arrange payment maybe through paypal and from then arrange collection. :thumb:
