Having retired about a year ago the wife decided I need to get out more and drink less beer. I had a brief dalliance with an upmarket supermarket, which I really hated.
Anyway to cut a long story short Im working for a car dealership, picking up used low milage cars. The owner organises everything, and even buys all the train tickets. All I have to do is turn up at the station and get on a train for a few hours and then drive home. Obviously there is a little paper work.
Its all on an adhoc basis and I can do as much or little as I want, so tomorrow Im off to Devon. Anyway WDYT??? chaps...is this a good move. By the way, I prefer my own company!

Have looked briefly at these jobs in the past. For me it would depend on how far i had to travel and then drive back,Devon not bad but much further and i wouldn't want to know.

Good on ya however,if it suits you that's all that counts.

Me, i have become a lazy so and so,basically retired but i still do one or two gardening jobs for some of my older long term customers -----BUT the less i do the less i want to do:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Spot on Chub. If the cars in Scotland the owner flys me up, and I don't have to work the next day. Also if business is a bit quiet, i can drive the van around Sussex delivering spares. Anyway, first job tomorrow so we will see if it suit me.

If it keeps you happy and out of mischief sounds like its a good move, plus liek you say it sounds like a very casual agreement so nothing to keep you pinned down..

Plus you get to do a little exploring I guess..

Doesn't sound too bad to me. You can read on the way there, listen to music on the way back, maybe pop into a little village for a spot of lunch.

Nice one! I'd like a job like that - where do I start looking (seriously).

I visit a lot of car body repair garages and they often have part time staff taking the vehicles back to customers once repaired as many don't have their own recovery vehicle, worth a phone call if you cannot find any car dealers in your area with a vacancy.

I work for a pathology company. I drive around picking up blood and stuff from doctors.
Bloody great, driving around, listening to the radio in someone else's car.

After a couple of near misses, the latest last week I'm now going to buy my own dashcam though.
There's some ********* on the road, and I'm not one of them.

sounds great i come into contact with quite a few folk that do that kind of work for a living, usually retired fellas with pensions sitting about bored half the time they work for major car dealers who move cars around the country depending on where the demand is and also other stuff like delivering cars or parts to local businesses to get repaired all seem very happy in their work

Sounds good, would be even better if you got to pick up the odd exotic / sporty number. Would make the drive back fun and as it's not your car redline it in every gear ;)

P.S. Don't take my advice if you want to keep the job.

Its so easy to check how the vehicle has been driven these days anyone driving in this manner wouldn't last long.
