That I intend to add to my wilko hoppy copper kit it says to place in a saucepan of water, one litre and simmer for 20 minutes remove bag and add liqueur to the brew, now I'm trying to impart caramel flavours into the finished beer so when would be the best time to add it? Right away or after the fermentation has nearly died away? I'd have thought too it would be advantageous to throw the tea bag in too, advice please would be most welcome

I'd do it straight away as the flavours from the grains aren't like the volatile oils in hops that can get carried away with C02. As to wether to chuck the tea bag into the FV too. On the one hand I'd be inclined not to do it but on the other I'd do it anyway in the intesests of experimentation 'just to see what happens'

Rather than simmering, it is probably best to steep it at 70 degrees or less. You run the risk of extracting tannins and adding an astringent taste to your beer.
