Hi All, I am off working in Wetherby 3rd sept & wondered if there were any good watering holes anyone could tell me of locally to keep me wetted for a couple of weeks. Ken.

a couple of weeks? I expect you'll have tested them ALL by the end of that and be advising us where to go!!!

Hehey - I grew up in Wetherby!
Not lived there since '98 but folks still do. I get misty eyed about the good old days when there were 13 pubs, with decent beer, live music, good times etc, all this were fields etc etc

The best beer nowadays is definitely to be had in The Muse on Bank St. It is a funny little place but always has a great selection of local guest ales, kept very nicely. Belgians too, if that's your bag.

The Royal Oak on North St is a proper pub and does a decent pint of either John Smiths or Tetleys (or both? can't remember  ) hand pulled from a cask how it should be. The Swan & Talbot, Three Legs, New Inn and Red Lion are all mediocre. Bruswick, gone. George & Dragon, gone. The Angel's a freakin Italian restaurant now, but that was no great loss to society. Black Bull used to be quite rough, not sure these days. The Crown - jeebus, that's a Sam Smiths pub that hadn't been decorated since the 70s... is it still even there?

For a food treat I would walk to Kirk Deigton - takes about half an hour. The Bay Horse is an excellent "gastropub". Or fish and chips at the legendary Wetherby Whaler. Or the Italian at Collingham.

ENJOY - and do report back! :thumb:

Hi Olriley, Swan & Talbot was good for London pride & a few other ales, the New inn was good for 2 meals 4 £8.95 with a decent pint of Copper dragon to be found there as well. The Black bull was ok & had plenty of music on,Red lion was good for a few ales also & the Crown (i think that was the name)was a bit of a dive.Good take away Ruby house called Ali Raj, had a few fish suppers from the Wetherby Whaler which was excellent.Had a few more beers in a couple of other places of forgotten names. All in all a friendly little town with adequate facilities, a really pleasant feel to the whole area & didn't feel out of place anywhere we went. Not enough happening to keep me occupied for too long but would go back to work there again with no hesitance whatsoever. Ken

Glad you enjoyed it - and glad to hear it still feels friendly, that's how I'll always remember it. Didn't realise Copper Dragon was getting more widespread. Nice beer.
Cheers
