I read that pubs are being charged £200 to get themselves in the guide this year

It is a sad day that this is happening for what was once a good referance to be able to go out and know you were going to a decent pub by the guide in the book now for the price of £200 any sloppy pub can get itself in there...

Gesh what is it coming to always knew THEY would shaft the real ale drinker in the end just for the old £££

MODS if this happens to go against the grain feel free to remove but I just thought peeps should know they cant trust the book these days.

Edited title ( did not mean to mislead )

Pubs do not have to pay to get into the Good Beer Guide.

Both the links you have put in refer to the Good Pub Guide which is an entirely seperate publication.
The Good Pub Guide never had any connection with Real Ale, there have always been lager only selling family playgrounds in there.

The Good Beer Guide is a CAMRA produced publication, edited by Roger Protz, and the Pubs that go into it are chosen by the regional CAMRA groups. The Pubs are not charged to appear in it.

EDIT. Now you have changed the title my post doesn't make sense really, but I have never rated the Good Pub Guide. If you want a decent pub, find a local brewery in the Good Beer Guide and phone them and ask for recommendations.

This subject was raised on Radio 4 the other day (or was it radio 2). Anyway someone from the GOOD PUB GUIDE was interviewed and you can't BUY an entry you still have to be a GOOD PUB and meet certain standards to be included. Or that was the impression I got from the interview.

utter crap, you will not be charged for inclusion in the guide. those charges are for fair sized adverts in the guide! and you can only get an advert if your included!

ive never been charged (i no longer run the pub but know the current team)and i dont get charged for my breweries inclusion also
