Despite the horrendous weather, had a rather excellent afternoon fly fishing for trout with the youngest step daughter! Even though it rained, was windy and sodding cold and very few bites and no fish, she had a splendid time and can't wait to go fishing again!

next project - get interested in brewing! She's only seven but you're never too young to start!

Use to love my fly fishing days, and associated fly tying sessions. I fondly remember my home designed floating black beetle...Deadly ... :D Still got all my stuff but sadly not been for a couple of years. Where did you go fishing ?
When teaching the younguns I found it better to go to private stocked ponds for first couple of sessions, they were at least guaranteed to catch a fish or two.

Trouble is you have now lost your quality free time alone in Peace. :D

Took her to one of the farms at work - it has a 5 acre lake stocked with trout :thumb: I may not get paid a load but there are perks to the job! :D Still learning fly fishing myself, getting lessons off our fisheries manager in exchange for beer! :thumb:

Train them up while their young :thumb:

Quite so! Got Jess about sorted now, next project is Scarlett - she's only 15 months but I'm sure she'll love brewing and driving tractors! :D

Quite wrong, but very amusing!! Hows about that then?!!

I have just taken up fly fishing (bought the gear but not been yet) and am looking forward to going, i'll be going to Wansford trout fishery for my first foray.

I have taken my step daughters sea fishng a few times and there's nothing like seeing their faces when they get that first bite/fish.

Agreed :thumb:

Start with something gentle like cleaning and sterlising 40 beer bottles and 30 wine bottles at the same time

:hat:

Brilliant, I've been involved in teaching kids fishing on and off for a few years now through our club, particularly fly fishing, great fun :thumb: Funnily enough it's the girls that seem to take to it quicker than the lads :!:

A couple of years ago I 'donated' an afternoons tuition and loan of all the gear etc to a charity promise auction, a woman bid for it for her husband and won, but then 'Phoned me and asked if I could teach her 10 y/o daughter instead. All the family came, mum sat in the picnic area reading and soaking up the sun, the girls dad and elder brother set off round the lake fishing on their own.

At the end of the afternoon, the others blanked... but the young lass had 3 rather nice trout to take home :thumb: aparrently the car journey home was quite a trip

I'll bet it was a good trip home!! I'm still gutted we caught nowt as it's only a five acre lake and it's just had 180 trout put in it!! When the weather is a bit more clement I'll take her again and we'll definately catch something more piscine than a cold!

They'll often 'sulk' for a day or two when first introduced to a new water  either that or shoal up somewhere :!:

good point  can't wait to go again, feeling optimistic for the next trip, even going to take my Cobb cooker so we can cook them at the lake side! :D

aah the joys of your first trout......

excellent sport fly fishing. I changed from course fishing many years ago when the amount of gear you needed became ridiculous.
Fly fishing just needed my rod,box of flies and a landing net.
The private lake I went to had good stocks of rainbows and some beautiful browns, which I could never bring myself to keep ( they were always returned to the water ). Biggest rainbow caught was a 12lb beauty we christened Gertrude. Browns were all in the 2 to 3 lb range.

The rainbows were great on the BBQ, wrapped in foil stuffed with butter and eaten with a dash of lemon juice straight out of the foil.

I've occasionally taken my ancient ABU smoker with me when I have a full days fluffchucking :thumb: it doesn't half focus your mind when you realise if you don't catch you're only going to have brown bread and butter for lunch :?
