I have no idea why but just decided to brew whatever came to mind this morning. Put it through brewmate to see what it said after I'd started my boil! First time sticking this in a cube for the real 'no chill' experience. Apologies to the chiller disciples ;)

0.25% Crystal 120
0.25% Torrified Wheat

2.3 g/L Northern Brewer (9.6% Alpha) @ 90 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)
0.9 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 5 Minutes (Boil)
0.4 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Boil)


Single step Infusion at 68°C for 90 Minutes. Boil for 90 Minutes

Fermented with Safale US-05

Seems like a pretty straightforward pale ale to me - and most importantly a tasty looking one!
 
Got 23 litres at 1.048, nice colour, cube worked, will have to see if it has any taste benefits but obviously the theory is the quicker transfer out of the boiler should increase the effect of the late hops.
 
sweet method,
didnt know people were doing this "no chill method" seems like a easy way to save a few bob on the immersion chillers- personally i think i would want to remove some of the inital hops (incase they go funny having been in the wort so long) but sounds like a solid method
esp in these times of hop expense
 
In theory no hops go in the cube, just in the boiler at flameout. However...

...I don't cube (yet) just drop straight to FV and wait and ferment the lot. Well, my last one I forgot the flameout hops, so the wort being still hot and all, they just got chucked in the FV and there they stayed until bottling.

The gravity sample pre-bottling was epic! It's just a simple premium bitter based loosely round FortyNiner, but it has something really different, really punchy. Could I have invented "cooling hops"? Can't wait to see what it's like once conditioned. I'll report back in three weeks...

Anyone got any thoughts as to why this would have been a bad idea? DMS maybe? It just seems like a cross between flameout and dry hops to me... :wha:
 
One of those 25l water containers you use for camping/caravanning.

The idea is that you drop hot wort in, screw the lid on and just leave it to cool before siphoning off the cold break material and fermenting.
