Very popular in America.

*Glass doesn't scratch so no risk microbes hiding in scratches.
*You can watch what's going on in you fermentation
*Glass doesnt absorb smells and 'colours' from beer (who here hasn't got a greeny brown plastic FV)
* Glass isnt oxgen permiable so you can rack you beer off the yeast cake and leave it in a carboy for ages if you like

I have a 54 litre glass carboy I use for my double brews I start in my 60 litre fv and rack into my carboy for clearing

Worth getting the carboy handle too for these as they can be heavy when filled with wort or wine.

A lot of people get warned away from them though as they can cause some really nasty accidents if they break, especially as glass can be slippy and they can be very heavy. Definitely get the handles to reduce the risks.

Mine has a plastic cover with handles black plastic so no light ruins my beer I would say since I started using it I have noticed that my beer is much clearer still have to wait though
