I need to break the summer brewing moratorium and have to put something together which SWMBO will approve of. Light, interesting, different....

So I have been doing a bit of a squirrel job over the last few months picking up a bit here and a bit there and what I have with left overs from earlier AG brews is the following:

  • 25Kg Marris Otter
    500g Amber
    500g Crushed Wheat
    300g chocolate
    300g Black

    100g Challenger (7.6%)
    100g Simcoe (12.2%)
    100g Saaz (3.1%)
    100g Willamette (6.1%)
    ~50g Northdown (8.0%)
    ~50g Goldings (4.8%)
    ~30g Fuggles (8.0%)
    ~50g Cascade (5.5%)

S04/Gervin English Ale yeast/Heart of England Brewers Yeast.

So has anyone got any energy in this lovely weather to come up with any exciting suggestions on what could come out of this ? :hmm:

What about a barley wine with the pale, amber, choclate and wheat malt with challenger and goldings. you will probably need some sugar as well. This is what I did this week Old Jake Barley Wine

Interesting thought for the winter, hadn't thought of doing a barley wine before ...... not this weekend though need something light.

Just thought it was something different and if you brew now it would be ready for Christmas. :hmm:

I've just got do do my elderberry stout then I will be ready for Christmas.

Actually one I rather like, but have a heavy one sitting there in the corny at the moment, hence looking for something lighter.

Ah, well then if you are wanting something lighter you probably won't need all those malts so perhaps just

85% pale
7% Amber
8% Wheat

Challenger and Northdown for bittering
Golding for aroma.

Cheers, this had turned into a double brew day .. one along your suggestion and the other using simcoe/cascade.
