Planning on getting into the VW scene, I got out bid but got offered a 2nd chance offer @£940 so I repliued saying that if the seller would MOT it I would give him £1000, I have checked on a VW forum that I frequent and it seem that I mat have offended the seller...

Seeing as it advertised as being off the road for 24 years and "needing a bit of work" I think you may have been a bit "ambitious". I'm sure a roadworthy example is worth a bit more than £1000.

I dont understand the "offended seller" thing.

Its a business transaction. Either he accepts your offer or he doesnt. If he's offended then he's a bit of a psychopath and I'd not go near him or his barn anyway.

Well I passed the offer up, have been sent a few other suggestions on another forum which I will look at :)

Considering that the typical price for a decent one is ~£3k I never really understand why folk pay a grand for a donor and then spend thousands of punds and thousands of hours doing it up.

Buying a project, to me, is something you do cheap enough that the finished vehicle is a 'bargain' to the owner, with the benefit that the owner has had fun doing it up and knows exactly what state every part is in :)

I think with a lot of the VW folks its a passion, got my eye on a few others at the moment, need to sell out Polo 1st though...
