Does anyone know any fun or interesting facts, jokes or stories relating to brewing or beer that you would like to share?

I'll start with a few.

Did you know that.........the original definition of the inch, was the length of three barleycorns?

........that UK shoe sizes are also based on the length of a barleycorn, so a size 10 foot or shoe is one barleycorn longer than a size 9 and two barleycorn shorter than a size 12 etc. (Source QI)

........that the easiest way to kill the foam on your beer is with fat or grease, so if you have a long moustache dripping with grease from eating fatty food, that will kill the foam on your beer, or if you are wearing lipstick that is fat based, that will also kill the foam on your beer. If you have lipstick and a moustache, then the foam on your beer is the least of your problems! (Source Charlie Bamforth)

The word bridal means a beer festival

A Bridal was a celebration given by the lord of the manor at which there was plentiful beer and food

Over the years a bridal celebration has come to be associated with weddings, but that is not where it started

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It used to be customary for people with money to lay down a barrel of beer on the birth of their son - to be consumed when the boy came of age i.e. 21 year old beer

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Jefferson of the US used to brag about the health regime that he and his team followed each day - it involved 7 pints of beer each day

1 before breakfast, 2 with breakfast, 2 with lunch and two with dinner
