If there's one recipe I can recommend to all-grain brewers with a high likelihood of satisfaction, this is it. Pale brews (bitters) are more difficult to get right.
Thanks to Roger Protz for this recipe. I've increased the hops from his version.
For 20 litres final volume:
4300g Pale malt
683g Brown malt
568g Ordinary Crystal
115g Chocolate malt
90g Goldings hops 60min boil
10g Goldings last 10 mins
Mash temp around 68C
Safale S04 yeast rehydrated
OG 1055
The beer tastes good from 1 day after casking; flavour changes with time. Complex taste from roasted and kilned malts including chocolate and liquorice.
