I upgraded from 5 gallon to 10, I'm now itching to go higher .... :D Is this an abnormal craving for a home brewer :hmm:
John

not if you can drink it all in the time it takes to get the next brew ready
or want to lay some down
otherwise you are altruistic and want to give away too much .
nothing wrong with that at all
so long as some comes my way too

I went from 5 to 10 and then to 1/2BBL . . . and I keep getting the itch to go bigger (Probably 2.5BBL although 4BBL is a possibility) . . . Then reality dawns . . . I can't drink all my current production so going bigger is not the right way to go . . . . If I could get a small 'cooperative' of home brewers together then it might work as we could brew the beer together and all take some of the wort/beer home . . . but I am no salesman so going commercial in the beer desert that is Blackpool and the environs is not going to happen.

In my experience it is pretty normal . . . although once you hit your drinking limit you do end up downsizing as well

10 gallons is fine for me. there are plenty of things you can do to a 10 gallon brewery that will keep you tinkering for years. :thumb:

I can't quite work out whether I prefer the idea of more beer around the same amount of work or putting more work in but getting more variety. I certainly wouldn't want to bottle up any more than a 23l batch.

My last brew was a co-operative effort with a 46l boil split 50/50 and the next one planned is a big mash and 2 boils for around 19l a piece . I guess I'm lucky to have mates who brew locally as I cant really brew at home just now. Maybe a a co-op is the way forward :)

I started with 5gal, and very quickly jumped up to 0.91 BBL (150 ltrs), However I am currently back on the 5 gal Rig,
1. To try out some recipes, for upscaling
2. Its too bl**dy cold to try and ferment 150ltrs of beer in my garage at the mo, as I have not yet built a heated fermenting cupboard, (the SWMBO does not mind a 25ltr bucket in the house).
3. Tweaking this and that.
